SOLD…….A pair of unusual green lens spectacles / eye glasses. Early 19thcA pair of Georgian spectacles with oval green lenses in a tortoiseshell frame. c1800 The arms are short as the glasses were held at the temple an easier fit when worn with a full powdered wig. The colour was because both green and blue lenses were thought to have health benefits. There is no damage. The roughness felt at the back of the arms was deliberate to make for a better grip. 11. 5 cm across Each arm 11cm long. Stock no. KZ44

A pair of old eye glasses with their original case stamped ' A Salmon Eyesight Expert Drinkwater Arcade Coventry' and with the logo of a salmon

It has its original spangle

The style suggests it was made by a Zuni craftsperson

The spring is good and the blade hasn't been misused

green glass lace bobbin with pale blue applied spots plus original spangle

The 45 gaming pieces are carved from mutton bone into various shapes including a bird and a trumpet plus a few are painted

The paper advert has been folded and has a small tear but that bit is still there

The discs are bun shaped with the silk being slotted into the top edge

A little domed box covered in fine straw work

Inside it is lined in blue velvet so it probably contained a glass bottle originally and was taken home as a souvenir perhaps bought at the hotel illustrated
