Obstacles (wood print | red on green background)I really enjoy drawing sea turtles and wanted to do a piece that was distinctly Florida without being obvious. In my previous turtle drawing "The Earth Builder" I did a combination of African and Australian tribal patterns. So I decided to make this piece a distinctly Florida turtle. I researched Seminole Indian patterns and found out that their patterns often depicted animals, water, and weather. My goal was to use visual patterns to represent

So I added a kind of antique wallpaper pattern to a sunburst of melaleuca tree bark

I love sugar skulls

a perfect combination to illustrate the "Obstacles" in a sea turtles life

and alien at the same time

Drawing at this scale has really inspired me

I find my frames a thrift stores and build to the size of the frame
