British School, Nocturne With Coastal ViewThis early 20th century nocturne captures a coastal view under a dense overcast sky. A wisp of light illuminates a resting sea while fisherfolk drag in nets and return home. Its an interesting piece with a near monochromic palette. Clearly the work of an accomplished hand. Georg Jahn trained at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and the Grand-Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar

one which could capture the relationship he had with the land

A later note says he was ‘cast’ in 1785

The canvas was probably tucked away in a portfolio before being attached to its stretcher

Emil Clahr (1905-1983) has used a broad brush and a light palette

It’s interesting to consider why Frederik chose this particular room to focus on as he also painted it at other times of the day
